In the past 54 years, Shaanxi Auto has undergone four important development periods, each of which is a history of independent innovation, pioneering struggle and self-transcendence.

On July 11, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released relevant data: In June, the production and sales of commercial vehicles completed 261,000 and 281,000 units respectively, down 33.2% and 37.4% year-on-year; from January to June, the production and sales of commercial vehicles completed 1,683,000 and 1,702,000 units respectively, down 38.5% and 41.2% year-on-year. Among them, from January to June, bus production and sales were completed 176,000 and 180,000 units, down 31.8% and 30.5% respectively; truck production and sales were completed 1,507,000 and 1,522,000 units, down 39.3% and 42.2% respectively. In the first half of this year, the commercial vehicle market demand shrunk, the terminal purchase demand weakened, while the international situation, raw materials and oil and gas price fluctuations and other factors, the operating costs of vehicle enterprises rose. In view of the current industry situation, Yuan Hongming said, "Although we see the winter, we are ready to meet the spring after the winter. Unlike consumer goods, commercial vehicles are a means of production, highly correlated with the national economy, our national economy is resilient, full of potential, the long-term positive fundamentals have not changed, will certainly be on the track of high-quality development to travel steadily, the current difficulties are temporary, now confidence is very important, we must be confident in the future development!"

From January-June 2018-2022 domestic heavy truck sales, 672,000 units in 2018, up 15.11% year-on-year; 656,300 units in 2019, down 2.33% year-on-year; 816,000 units in 2020, up 24.36% year-on-year; 1,040,000 units in 2021, up 27.4% year-on-year; 2022 378,000 units in 2022, down 64.0% year-on-year, the lowest sales volume and the largest year-on-year decrease in the same period in five years.

The annual sales of heavy trucks in 2020 is the best period in history, reaching 1.62 million units. Yuan Hongming believes that it is more normal for annual domestic heavy truck sales to remain at one million units. "The current demand for commercial vehicles still exists, and as long as the economic situation is positive and stable, we at Shaanxi Auto will have no problem."

In June 2022, Shaanxi Auto's heavy truck sales were 12,400 units in a single month, jumping to the first place in the domestic industry ranking, which was also the first time Shaanxi Auto ranked first in the industry for heavy truck sales in a single month. from January to June, Shaanxi Auto's sales were 54,100 units, ranking fourth in the country, down 62% year-on-year. In the domestic dump truck market segment, for example, according to Fangde.com data, sales fell by more than 90% for three consecutive months from April to June, with June down 90.4% year-on-year. In contrast, Shaanxi Auto sold 754 units in April, 622 units in May and 501 units in June, with market shares of 30.6%, 28.7% and 25.4% respectively, occupying the first place in the industry for three consecutive months; from January to June, Shaanxi Auto sold 4,185 dump trucks, ranking first in the industry. It can be said that Shaanxi Auto occupies a pivotal position in China's commercial vehicle industry, especially in the field of heavy trucks.

Since Yuan Hongming became chairman of Shaanxi Auto Holdings in 2015, Shaanxi Auto has jumped from fifth to fourth place in the heavy truck sector, and has maintained its position until now. 2021, Shaanxi Auto's production and sales even created a historical high of 20.09 million units.

Shaanxi Automotive commercial dump truck future development

Industry insiders predict that in the second half of this year, the commercial vehicle market, especially the heavy truck market, is expected to recover and achieve a positive growth rate. Yuan Hongming also said: "Now our national GDP development to a certain extent, infrastructure construction in the quantity can already, in quality there is still a lot of room for improvement, so there is still a lot of demand. Such as after the public to railway, the market end of the emerging market opportunities for short-haul reverse transportation, logistics and transportation environment to bring new changes. Therefore, enterprises should adapt to the new situation and market changes, not just tractors, but around the customer's working conditions and use scenarios, focus on creating value for customers, the product to the road, we must adjust the product structure in a timely manner."

Make up for the shortcomings: seize the window of product structure adjustment

There is no doubt that the market demand has changed dramatically, and the product structure of commercial vehicles should be adjusted accordingly.

"The product structure is related to the national economic situation, which is now dominated by logistics vehicles and tractor trucks." Yuan Hongming analysis, "but if consumption does not come up, there is a possibility that engineering vehicles are the main. Engineering vehicles used to occupy half of the mountain in the past, but the future engineering vehicles to reach 50% of the proportion is not realistic, because now the consumption capacity is very strong, driving the development of logistics."

Yuan Hongming firmly said, "Our tractor and dump truck have achieved industry leadership, and special purpose vehicles must do the same, and so must the truck. The main body of the market is the enterprise, and the guidance of policies and regulations is great, so the enterprise has to seriously study the changes in regulations and develop corresponding products."

Shaanxi Auto has been promoting product refinement layout and efficiency upgrade work. For example, according to the application region, Shaanxi Auto subdivides the southwest version, cold area version and other models; according to the scenario, subdivides the highway vehicle, non-highway vehicle; according to the use, subdivides the urban construction dump, cement mixing, hazardous chemical transportation, sanitation, powder granular material transportation and other models.

In recent years, the trend of new energy for commercial vehicles has been obvious and has shown rapid growth. 28,000 new energy commercial vehicles were sold in June 2022, up 88.4% year-on-year, and 168,000 new energy commercial vehicles were sold in 2021, up 49.4% year-on-year. In the process of full implementation of electrification in cities, new energy sanitation vehicles, buses, urban distribution, etc. will drive the growth of new energy commercial vehicle market. In addition, lightweight and high-end will also become a hot spot in the commercial vehicle market competition, and companies should seize the window of market development.

Shaanxi Auto is also making efforts in the field of light trucks, developing new energy light trucks to open up the "last mile" of the city. Yuan Hongming said: "The construction of new rural areas is also worth studying. Around the new rural construction, we are also laying out and starting to develop products suitable for the new rural construction, in order to prepare for the next round of growth targets."

In addition, Shaanxi Auto has been actively promoting the development of overseas markets. As early as 1988, Shaanxi exported a heavy-duty truck to the United Arab Emirates, achieving a "zero breakthrough" in exports. Under the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, Shaanxi Auto has stepped up its efforts to enter overseas markets. Up to now, Shaanxi Auto has 42 overseas offices, more than 190 first-class dealers, 35 parts centers, more than 84 overseas parts stores and more than 380 overseas service outlets, and localized production in 15 countries. Yuan Hongming said, "This year we were the first to see the opportunities in the international market, advance the layout of products, innovative marketing model, the first half of our exports did very well, the most exported month sales of 5,000 to 6,000 vehicles." He said that in the first half of this year, Shaanxi Auto exported more than 20,000 orders in overseas markets, setting a new historical record.

And according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in June this year, the industry exported 51,000 commercial vehicles, up 32.4% year-on-year; in the first half of the year, 274,000 commercial vehicles were exported, up 38.8% year-on-year.

The overall performance of Shaanxi Auto in the first half of this year can be, but Yuan Hongming does not shy away from saying, "At present, we still have shortcomings and weaknesses in the domestic market, and need to practice our internal strength." He said, "We quietly think about where the problem is and adjust the product structure to make up for the shortcomings, and the opportunity will come when the market is up in the next round."
