Special Vehicle Operations Descriptions

Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) is a term that runs throughout Company's global operations as a performance group.In 1993, the regiment was renamed the Special Vehicle Team (SVT). As of 2015, SVO is owned by Jaguar Land Rover, creating high-performance versions of the Jaguar F-Type and Range Rover Sports, among others.

Mustang SVO 

The group's  production car is designed to compete directly with European sports sedans such as the BMW 3 Series.To keep costs down, they used the existing 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and a Borg-Warner T-5 five-speed manual transmission.The car got a different computer and air gauge and added an intercooler, a Hurst transmission, KONI Group shocks and 16-inch wheels, a novelty at the time.The car produced 175 hp (130 kW) for the 1984 model year (MY) and the first part of 1985 MY, 205 hp (152 kW) after 1985 MY, and 200 hp (149 kW) for the 1986 model year. A total of 9,844 were built.

SVO

SVO's first road car was based on the then-new  starting with the "S Pac" or "Fairmont Ghia" trim levels.SVO added custom ROH 16" wheels, Recaro seats, a MOMO steering wheel, suspension upgrades including Bilstein dampers, engine mods, a spoiler and a two-tone gray paint job.SVO had hoped the cars would match  Relationships were built to support the performance sector, however, at this Ford did not invest in performance or racing.The relationship did not develop further, but selected Ford dealers sold SVO products.SVO initially produced 600 Falcon sedans, 100 Utes, 600 Fairlanes and 280 Capris.

Other models

Dealer records in Melbourne and Sydney show five SVO Fairlane NL models were built between 1997 and 1998.Several Falcon (EL) XR8 and Fairmont (EL) Ghia were also produced by Southside Ford in Brisbane to demonstrate that a branch of Ford Motorsport parts imported.These were reviewed in Motor and Wheels magazine in 1997 and were available in either 195kW or 215kW models, also comes with SVO enhancements including a 185 kW 6-cylinder engine.
