Not every haul is a thousand kilometres. A lot of freight moves from a factory gate to a yard, or from a dock to a depot ten kilometres away, over and over through the day. That is the run the X5000e 6x4 lightweight version was trimmed for.
The cab is the X5000e high-roof flat floor, so the driver gets the same room and the same air seat as the long-haul trucks. What changes is underneath. A 270kW rated motor, 410kW at peak, drives through a 4-speed AMT, and the lightened frame and few-leaf springs take weight out of the chassis where it does not need to be.
Every kilogram saved on the tractor is a kilogram that can go into payload or come off the battery bill. The 6x4 layout still puts traction down on a loaded trailer, and the 5.571 axle ratio is geared for pulling away from a standstill at a plant entrance rather than for top-end motorway speed.
