Coupling choice drives the frame loadsA tow tractor pulling on a drawbar loads the frame in a different direction to one carrying a trailer on a fifth wheel. Drawbar pulling puts tension along the chassis rails and a vertical download at the hitch, while a fifth wheel puts the load directly on the rear axle.
