On a mining site the load cycle is short and the loading is crude: an excavator drops a bucket from height, the truck pulls away on a grade that has been cut by the machine in front, and the rear axle absorbs the shock. This H3000 6x4 is built around a 385 HP diesel on the 9.726 L block driving through a manual gearbox onto a 16 tonne rear axle, with mechanical suspension taking the vertical load rather than hydraulic pressure.
Six wheel drive means six tyres share the driven load across two axles, so each rear tyre carries a smaller share of the bucket drop than a four wheeler would. On a face where the truck does fifteen to twenty loads a shift, that difference decides tyre life.
