SHACMAN has strengthened its presence in the Southeast Asian aluminum industry with a fleet solution designed for bauxite mining and alumina port delivery in the Indochina Peninsula. The southeastern coast of the region is known for its rich bauxite reserves, and local aluminum producers have long needed trucks that can match both heavy-load demands and strict road regulations.
XL Group, a major aluminum player in the region, has operated locally for decades and built a complete industrial chain from bauxite mining to alumina export. While its production capacity grew steadily, truck transport remained the weak link in the chain. The company's existing fleet could not deliver the efficiency its expanding operations required.
According to the SHACMAN project team, the fleet faced two typical problems. On one side, some vehicles were limited by local regulations and could not carry sufficient payload. On the other side, several larger-tonnage models were too bulky for the mining routes, leaving much of their capacity unused. Neither configuration matched the actual working conditions of the sites.
In 2024, the SHACMAN team conducted on-site surveys at XL Group's operations, evaluating mining roads, loading methods, and the long port delivery route. The research produced two solutions tailored to the customer's real needs.
The two SHACMAN solutions have improved transport efficiency across XL Group's aluminum supply chain:
| Application | SHACMAN Solution | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Bauxite mining haulage | 50-ton off-set mining dump truck | Heavy-load capability with upgraded hardware |
| Alumina delivery to port (200 km) | X5000 lightweight tractor truck | Higher payload per trip and annual revenue |
| Long downhill sections | Engine brake system | Safe, stable braking performance |
| Regulation compliance | Fleet matched to local gross weight rules | Legal payload with no capacity waste |
By matching truck capacity to local regulations and real route conditions, SHACMAN helped XL Group remove its transport bottleneck and keep the aluminum business running efficiently from bauxite extraction to alumina export. The rugged mining dump truck handles the mine site, while the lightweight, fuel-efficient tractor covers the port delivery route.
SHACMAN will continue to support XL Group with spare parts supply, service planning, and driver training to keep the fleet productive
throughout the year.
